    According to Bloomberg, 8 out of 10 entrepreneurs who start businesses fail within the first 18 months.  Today, Identity theft can be a huge factor in crippling a business.  By not protecting the business owner's identity, the business could fold. By not protecting the employees, it causes increased absenteeism, reduced production and stress in the workplace.  How to mitigate Identity theft in the workplace is important and recognizing that over 70% of victims will encounter legal issues. The presentation will outline the Identity Theft Resource Center Data Breach Report. This report outlines breaches that became public in the current year.  Noting some breaches have an unknown number of exposed records, the main categories are Banking/Credit/Financial, Business, Education, Government/Military and Medical/Healthcare.  As a result of said breaches we will review the IRS Decision on Identity theft plans provided by Employers.  Decision Analyst, a marketing consulting firm, provided global research on the Legal Needs of American Families listing identity theft in the top reasons.  We will discuss the problems, possible solutions and how to mitigate damages to employers and employees by using proactive measures vs. reactive
